2. Day: Goa
Welcome to India!
Colva Beach is located on the south coast of Goa, about 30 km from Panaji and just a few kilometers from the town of Margao. The beach is known for its fine white sand and crystal clear waters. Unlike the crowded, more touristy beaches in the north of Goa, Colva offers a relaxed atmosphere.
The beach is lined with palm trees and the calm waters are good for swimming or boating. Water sports such as jet skiing and parasailing are also available, while the cute little beach cafes and restaurants serve delicious, local Goan dishes. Colva is perfect for a relaxed beach holiday with the opportunity to enjoy the local culture and gastronomy.
In the evenings, the beach turns into a beautiful spot for sunsets, with the golden colors of the sky reflecting the calm sea.
3. Day: Goa / ca. 50 km
Royal Enfield Classic
Today is the day. Our well-preserved and well-maintained Royal Enfield Classic 500cc are waiting for you. With their robust single-cylinder engine and classic design, they are ideal for a motorcycle trip through India. They offer a relaxed seating position, reliable performance and easy maintenance - perfect for long distances and changing road conditions. Their nostalgic style combines with modern technology such as fuel injection and electric starter. The wide availability of spare parts and mechanics in India makes them a particularly practical choice for a motorcycle adventurer in India.
Today we will get the bikes out of the garage and set off on a first short test drive. You will have the opportunity to get to know different facets of Indian traffic.
4. Day: Drive to Hospet (Hampi) / ca. 330 km
The journey from Goa to Hosprt/Hampi takes us through the picturesque Western Ghats mountains and the vast landscapes of Karnataka before we reach the small town of Hospet, the gateway to Hampi. On the way we enjoy varied landscapes, from rural areas to tropical forests.
5. Day: Hospet (Hampi) / ca. 50 km
Hampi is a truly magical place, famous for its imposing ruins that bear witness to the Vijayanagar dynasty. The monumental rocks and temples make the place unique and offer one of the most impressive archaeological landscapes in the world.
The surroundings of Hampi are also unique, with huge rocks scattered across the plains and the green banks of the Tungabhadra River. The stunning rock landscape, bathed in golden hues at sunset, makes Hampi an unforgettable destination. There are numerous hiking trails that lead to viewpoints from which one can overlook the entire landscape of ruins.
6. Day: Trip to Chitradurga / ca. 130 km
The route from Hampi to Chitradurga offers a varied drive through the Karnataka countryside on good roads that are mostly paved. You can expect wide open fields, small villages and some rolling hills along the way.
Chitradurga is a historic town known for the impressive Chitradurga Fort. Chitradurga is also known for its rocky landscape and stunning views of the surrounding area. We will explore the Chitradurga Fort, which is spread over several hills and has a fascinating history linked to the Marathas and the Karnataka region.
7. Day: Trip to Belur / ca. 165 km
The route from Chitradurga to Belur passes through a mix of hilly landscapes, green fields and small towns. The roads are mostly well-maintained, with some winding sections that make the journey exciting.
Belur is known for the Chennakeshava Temple, a masterpiece of Hoysala architecture dating back to the 12th century. The intricate sculptures and attention to detail of this temple attract visitors from all over the world. The stone carvings tell stories from mythology and reflect the high craftsmanship of the time.
8. Day: Trip to Mysor / ca. 165 km
The roads on this stage are mostly well-maintained, with some rural sections that give you an authentic taste of life in Karnataka.
Before we reach Mysore, we stop off in Sravanabelagola. Sravanabelagola is an important place for Jains and is famous for the Gommateshwara statue, an impressive 17.4-meter-high monolith statue that stands on the Vindyagiri hill. The climb of around 600 steps is worth it as you are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the surrounding area.
From Sravanabelagola, we continue to Mysore. The last few kilometers offer mostly flat roads, so you can finish the journey in a relaxed manner.
9. Day: Mysore / ca. 100 km
Mysore, also known as the "City of Palaces", offers a fascinating mix of history, culture and nature. The city itself is home to the impressive Mysore Palace, which attracts visitors from all over the world with its majestic architecture and ornate details. The palace is particularly impressive in the evening hours when it is illuminated with thousands of lights. Another highlight is Chamundi Hill, on which the Chamundeshwari Temple stands. The view of Mysore from the top is breathtaking and the climb past the giant Nandi statue is an unforgettable experience. If you want to experience the vibrant local life, you should definitely visit the Devaraja Market, which is known for its colorful displays of spices and flowers.
10. Day: Trip to Mettupalayam / ca. 175 km
The ride from Mysore to Mettupalayam is a real highlight for motorcycle enthusiasts and nature lovers. The route takes you through the impressive Bandipur and Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuaries, which are known for their diverse wildlife and dense forests. Here you drive on winding roads lined with majestic trees and with a bit of luck you can spot elephants, deer or even a shy tiger along the way.
After the sanctuaries, the climb into the Nilgiri Mountains begins, which takes you on unforgettable switchbacks to Ooty, the "Queen of the Hills". Breathtaking views, tea plantations and cool mountain air await you on this section - a welcome change from the plains. A stop in Ooty gives you the opportunity to relax with a cup of freshly brewed tea.
From Ooty, the route descends again to Mettupalayam, a section that leads through dense forests and open landscapes. The winding roads and the change in vegetation make this part of the stage particularly varied.
Mettupalayam lies at the foot of the Nilgiri Mountains and is known as the starting point for the famous Nilgiri Mountain Railway. A visit to the station is worthwhile to see the charming blue trains.
11. Day: Trip to Munnar / ca. 195 km
The ride from Mettupalayam to Munnar is a real highlight of the trip, taking you from the deep valleys of the Nilgiris to the green hills of Kerala.
You start off by rolling on well-maintained roads that gently wind uphill as the landscape slowly changes shape. The dense vegetation reveals the first glimpses of the tea plantations and you begin to feel the fresh, cool mountain air that awaits you after the warm lowland air. The route is winding but easy to ride - a real treat for motorcyclists who love the feeling of freedom on the open road.
The ride becomes increasingly spectacular the closer you get to the Nilgiri mountains. The roads meander through dense forests, with massive rocks and clear, flowing streams lining the way. The hills come ever closer and the landscape changes continuously. Finally, you enter the world of tea plantations - sprawling green hills that stretch out over the land in gentle waves. The scent of fresh tea is in the air and the lush green of the plantations is a feast for the eyes.
The higher you climb, the cooler it gets and soon you find yourself in the higher regions of Munnar. The last few kilometers take you through the Eravikulam region, which is known for its breathtaking views. From here you have a fantastic view of the surrounding area, with gently sloping tea plantations and forested slopes.
The journey ends in Munnar, a nice little South Indian town. Not only nature awaits you here, but also a completely different climate - a refreshing cool down after the tropical heat you have left behind. Munnar is like a green oasis where you can enjoy the diversity of nature in peace while you prepare for the next part of your journey.
12. Day: Munnar / ca. 60 km
Munnar is a picturesque hill town at an altitude of about 1,600 meters, known for its endless tea plantations, fresh mountain air and tranquility. In the Tea Museum we can learn all about the history and production of tea. The trip to the Top Station takes us to a viewpoint with fantastic panoramic views of the valleys and cloud forests.
13. Day: Trip to Thekkady / ca. 110 km
The route from Munnar to Thekkady is one of the most beautiful motorcycle routes in Kerala. It leads through the spectacular landscape of the Western Ghats with green hills, spice plantations, tea plantations and dense forests. The winding roads make the biker's heart beat faster and they offer breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. We drive through pepper, cardamom and vanilla plantations that fill the air with an aromatic scent.
14. Day: Free day in Thekkady
The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is a well-known nature reserve around Periyar Lake. It is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including elephants, tigers, deer and numerous species of birds. Guided walks through the Periyar reserve offer the opportunity to experience the diverse flora and fauna up close.
In addition to numerous souvenir shops, Thekkady has several Ayurveda centers where you can relax with a traditional Ayurvedic massage.
15. Day: Trip to Munroe Island / ca. 150 km
The drive from Thekkady to Munroe Island is a varied and scenic leg that takes you from the hills and forests of the Periyar National Park to the calm waters of the Kuttanad region. We drive through scenic roads lined with lush greenery and rice fields before finally reaching Munroe Island.
Munroe Island is a true treasure surrounded by the calm waters of the backwaters. What makes Munroe Island special is the harmony between the rivers, the lush palm groves and the vast rice fields that dominate the picture. Here, time seems to pass more slowly as we enjoy the picturesque canals of the backwaters and the peaceful landscape on a boat ride lasting several hours.
The backwaters are a fascinating network of calm waterways lined with coconut palms and tropical greenery. Life on the island is closely connected to the natural environment and you can watch the locals doing their traditional fishing or farming. The peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty of Munroe Island make it an unforgettable destination before we set off on the last voyage of our South India trip tomorrow.
16. Day: Trip to Varkala / ca. 90 km
The visit to Munroe Island and the boat ride through the backwaters were undoubtedly one of the highlights of this trip - an unforgettable moment that perfectly captured the feeling of peace and closeness to nature. But now, after all the adventures and discoveries, the road leads back to Varkala, the destination of your trip.
The trip from Munroe Island to Varkala is a journey from the peaceful idyll back to the lively coasts that make up the beauty of Kerala. On the way, you can enjoy the last impressions of the green landscape before you reach the vastness of the Arabian Sea. Once you arrive in Varkala, you will immediately feel the relaxed atmosphere that makes this city so special.
17. Day: Varkala
Varkala is a place of tranquility where you can end your journey in the perfect way. The golden beach that stretches along the cliffs offers breathtaking views of the sea and invites you to enjoy the moment. The fresh sea breeze, the soft sand under your feet and the gentle waves create the perfect backdrop to celebrate the end of this extraordinary journey.
18. Day: Varkala
Varkala is a place that exudes a very special magic with its bustling life and lively atmosphere. The place pulsates with life, yet remains pleasantly relaxed - a perfect mix of relaxation and energy.
Varkala's cliff is the central meeting point where locals and travelers alike gather. From here you have a spectacular view of the Arabian Sea, whose waves gently lap against the golden beaches. The viewpoint on the cliff not only offers an ideal place to enjoy the beauty of the sea, but also to watch the hustle and bustle on the promenade. The path along the cliff is lined with numerous souvenir shops that offer a variety of handmade treasures - from colorful jewelry to artistic fabrics to traditional Indian artwork. Here you can find the perfect souvenir of your trip.
The numerous small cafes and restaurants along the cliff entice with tempting scents and a cozy ambience. Each café has its own charm - from modern, stylish establishments to small, rustic restaurants serving local dishes and international specialties. The atmosphere is always relaxed, and you'll quickly notice that the coffee houses and food stalls become a meeting place. 19. Day: Flight home
