Routing
1. Day: Arrival – Let’s get started!
The plane takes off to Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay. Somewhere in the night, you set foot on Indian soil – welcome to the subcontinent! The big adventure begins.
2. Day: Exploring Mumbai
After a few hours of sleep and a good breakfast, we start the day relaxed. Our hotel is centrally located – perfect for discovering Mumbai’s highlights on foot: the colonial charm, the bustling atmosphere, maybe a first Masala Chai by the roadside. The city is pulsing – and we are right in the middle of it.
3. Day: On to Nashik / ca. 220 km
Today we take a vehicle – not the bike – out of Mumbai. The traffic is pure madness, and we want to spare you that stress. Nashik awaits with a completely different vibe: spiritual ghats on the Godavari River, a touch of Kumbh Mela magic – and, of course, our Enfields. Today we check them out and get familiar with Indian traffic. Don’t worry – the chaos has a system. And we learn quickly how to dance in it.
4. Day: Ellora calls / ca. 195 km
Now the ride really starts! The first leg brings us to Ellora, where the first architectural marvel awaits: the Kailash Temple – carved out of a single rock from top to bottom. A masterpiece that leaves you speechless. Our hotel is nearby – ideal for a relaxed evening.
5. Day: Day trip to Ajanta / ca. 205 km
A day trip takes us to another highlight of Indian cultural history: the Ajanta caves. In a secluded valley, Buddhist monks between the 2nd and 8th centuries created unique murals and meditation caves. UNESCO World Heritage – rightfully so.
6. Day: Covering miles – to Solapur / ca. 340 km
Today is pure riding pleasure. The roads vary between good and rough – but the feeling on the Enfield is always top. We cruise across the vast Deccan plateau, feeling the wind and freedom, and in the evening we know: this is exactly why we are here.
7. Day: Onwards to Badami / ca. 220 km
Another real riding day – then we reach Badami, a place like from a picture book: old cave temples, a peaceful lake, quiet after the ride through India’s backroads. Time for some culture and a bit of reflection.
8. Day: Temple tour to Pattadakal / ca. 40 km
Today’s a short ride – but with big impact: In Pattadakal, builders experimented with various temple styles. The place is an open-air museum of Indian architecture – and the people here? Warm, curious, and photogenic. A dream for anyone who loves storytelling with a camera.
9. Day: To Hospet / ca. 140 km
The stretch is short, the ride pleasant. Those who want can already visit Hampi in the afternoon – or simply stroll through Hospet, sip chai, and soak in the scenery. Tomorrow holds a real highlight.
10. Day: Discovering Hampi
Hampi is magical. Huge boulders, hidden temples, royal palaces – the heritage of the mighty Vijayanagar Empire lies scattered in a landscape that seems frozen in time. On foot, by tuk-tuk, or bike – everyone discovers Hampi their way. A day full of history and wonder.
The whole area spread over several kilometers is covered by huge rocks. It looks as if some giants wildly threw with rocks in long gone times.
In the middle of this rough landscape, sometimes hidden under the rocks, sometimes on the plain ground we'll find numerous temples all dating back to the Vijayanagar rulers.
11. Day: Riding to Goa / ca. 330 km
A long ride brings us to the sea – to Goa! Finally, beach, palm trees, sea breeze. Our hotel is just minutes from the beach. So: helmet off, boots off, swimwear on – and into the waves. Or maybe a cold beer by the pool?
12. Day: Free day in Goa
No schedule today. Chill on the beach or by the pool, or hop on the bike to explore Goa’s Portuguese-influenced churches, lush paddy fields, and small villages inland. Goa has many faces – and we have time to discover them.
13. Day: Through the Western Ghats to Kolhapur / ca. 245 km
We leave the sea and dive into the mountains. The Western Ghats are green, twisty, and simply beautiful. The Enfield purrs through bend after bend – this is what riding is all about.
14. Day: On to Panchgani / ca. 160 km
Welcome to the hill station! Panchgani sits picturesquely on a plateau – the perfect place to catch your breath. No honking, no loudspeakers, no rush. Just silence, fresh air, and wide views into the valley. An almost meditative experience.
15. Day: Back to Mumbai / ca. 250 km
The last riding day – and it’s got some punch. Hills, landscapes, wide views – and then the finale: approaching Mumbai. Just before the city, we hand over the bikes and relax on the drive. Time to let all the experience sink in.
16. Day: One last day in Mumbai
Who wants can visit the Elephanta caves by boat (the ride is pleasant, the caves rather unspectacular). Or stay in town for a last stroll through the hustle. Mumbai has countless facets – and a day to experience them once more.
17. Day: Flight home – or better book the next tour right away?
The trip officially ends. But anyone who’s been to India knows: this country never lets go. Maybe we’ll see each other soon? In Rajasthan, the Himalayas, or deep South. Until then: Namaste and safe travels!
Namaste, see you again!
